Edmonton…Recognizing the importance of training the best and brightest young chefs for the future, Civeo, a global workforce accommodation specialist has been brought on to be the presenting sponsor of the High School Culinary Challenge, presented annually by the Canadian Culinary Federation (CCF) – Edmonton chapter. Planning is underway for the 8th annual competition to be held at NAIT’s Hokanson Centre for Culinary Arts on February 7, 2015.
“We couldn’t be happier to be the first title sponsor for the HSCC,” says Christopher B. Rochford, Sr. Director, Food Services North America, Civeo. “Food service is an integral part of our business and we value what the High School Culinary Challenge is doing to attract talented young chefs. It’s important to give youth an opportunity to participate and succeed in the culinary industry and we are very proud to support this worthwhile endeavor.”
“It is very exciting to bring on Civeo as our presenting sponsor,” says Chef Simon Smotkowicz, Executive Chef at the Shaw Conference Centre and Chair of the CCF Edmonton High School Culinary Challenge. “The competition is our opportunity to identify early on who has the drive and skill to excel in the culinary arts profession and to help them succeed early in their careers. With Civeo’s support, we are able to be more proactive in our plans for scholarships and professional development for these chefs.”
Last year, 16 schools participated in the High School Culinary Challenge, which was the largest competition to date. In addition to competing, all participants are eligible to apply for up to three full scholarships to attend NAIT’s culinary apprenticeship program, where apprentices have the opportunity to work with some of Canada’s top chefs.
