The culinary team from Edmonton’s St. Joseph Catholic High School defeated 14 other teams to take gold at the High School Culinary Challenge Awards Dinner Monday, March 6. Silver went to Austin O’Brien Catholic High School and bronze went to St. Francis Xavier Catholic High School. Teams competed by cooking a three-course meal on February 25th inside the NAIT’s kitchens and were judged on preparation, timing, sanitation, presentation and of course taste!

“Year after year it’s always exciting to see the level of talent these teams bring to the kitchen,” says High School Culinary Challenge Co-Chair Chef Paul Campbell. “It’s great to witness a new generation of young chefs test their skills and walk away with a great sense of accomplishment.”

“Since 2008, the High School Culinary Challenge has been a catalyst for Edmonton’s food scene. We were thrilled to be able to host the competition in-person once again, giving these talented students a chance to showcase their skills and gain valuable experience in a professional kitchen.” – Peter Keith, High School Culinary Challenge Chair.

The High School Culinary Challenge Competition and Scholarship Program is helping ensure that there will be new and innovative young chefs to contribute to the Edmonton culinary community for many years to come.

Coming up on May 11th at the Mosaic Centre is the main fundraiser of the year for the HSCC – Hot Chefs Cool Beats will include food stations, drink stations, live entertainment, a silent and live auction. Please consider joining us for an amazing evening to support the next generation of chefs! Early bird tickets are $95 and can be purchased HERE
